The CMII Research Institute

About the CMII Research Institute

The newly formed CMII Research Institute will focus on ongoing enhancements and expanded applications of the CMII principles. Until now, this role has been performed by the Institute of Configuration Management (ICM). Responsibility for research and development is now separated from the responsibilities for training, certification and implementation support.

The CMII Research Institute was formed January 1st, 2006 and is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The CMII Research Institute will work in partnership with ICM, CMII training and certification providers in other countries, developers of enabling software tools, our university sponsors and the full spectrum of CMII users and business partners.

CM Process Performance

CMII has continued to evolve since the training and certification program was initiated in 1986. Many paradigms have been shifted. The fragmented elements of configuration management were brought together and integrated into one cohesive unit. CM was transformed into a business process infrastructure that truly works. Ability to accommodate change and keep all associated information clear, concise and valid became a reality. The secret is in the how-to. CMII grads are on the leading edge of implementation and application. Success stories are now the norm.

CM process performance must be measured in two dimensions. One is the CM process itself. The other involves how overall organizational performance is influenced by CM process improvements. Resources being spent on intervention provide an excellent correlation between overall performance and the CM process. A linear improvement in data integrity provides an exponential improvement in overall performance. CM process improvement deserves top priority.

Our Focus and Mission

CM process improvement is our focus. Much of the how-to has already been established. More emphasis shall be placed on execution. Our mission is to make the CMII implementation process reliable and efficient. The implementation process should be flawless. Our mission is to ensure that both dimensions of improved performance are achieved in every case.

Our overall mission represents a coordinated effort. Research and development activities will be coordinated with those who provide CMII training, certification, and implementation support. The R&D activities shall be driven by feedback from the downstream activities. Improved methods and tools derived from that feedback will be validated by the users. Our success will be measured by the success of our customers.
